I have a suggestion. They are not writing, they are drawing. Eight strokes and it is done! These are decorators putting a mark on an object to make it fulfill legal requirements for import into a foreign country. The word "Italy" needed to be in English, not in Italian, to fulfill the requirement. You had to put an indelible mark on the item stating in English where it was made. In China they relied on stamps and transfers. In Italy they mostly used this quick eight stroked 'drawing' to fulfill the requirement. Some of these artist-decorators were illiterate in Italian as well as English.
