Can anyone please tell me what this is???

My aunt bought this a few years ago and has never been able to figure out what it is... it looks like an old rug beater but im not for sure

That was my first though too, a rug beater. They came in all shapes and sizes. Either that, or some kids had a sore butt after mom was done with them. :)

I vote rug beater too. Some of the smaller ones were also used to dust clothing and draperies. Also as pillow fluffers. I'm guessing size would be the key clue to it's intended use. I always love great old functional items! :-)
