Serving overseas can really make a soldier thirsty! I thought after Veteran’s Day that I’d lighten things up a bit.

This bit of ephemera is an advertisement for a bar in Heidelberg catering to American soldiers. My best guess was not long after 1955, when a new main train station (bahnhof) was built after the war. It’s black ink on newsprint with errors (open evry Days), which gives the impression that it was made when West Germany was still recovering. It came from the estate of a retired Master Sergeant that served at the hospital in Heidelburg during this period.

The back of the flier serves as a handy note that the soldier will be back and the beer is not abandoned.
