I'm really proud of this piece of Americana, a memorable step in the old one room school houses.
It's an old blackboard or slate that students would use at their seats. The student blackboard appears pretty old to me, perhaps around 1900. It has very old-fashioned connectors holding it together, it looks almost pre-industrial.

Anybody else out there collecting old educational technology? Any ideas on how to categorize such a thing? I put it under games and paper as the best fits. But, neither category does fit. Thoughts?
Hi there RetroEdTech,
There doesn't seem to be a very good fit for schoolroom antiques at the moment, but hopefully we'll have a category for them in the near future. I thought you might enjoy seeing this post our founder put up a few years back:

Collectors Weekly is part of a small company that also runs Quizlet.com, a free online study tool.
all best,
Hunter
Love this...I think that may be the next thing I will collect...since I'm up to 6 desks...and my house isn't that big!! :)
Thanks, I had no idea that Collectors Weekly was connected to Quizlet. There's an interesting parallel. http://www.retroedtech.com is connected to http://www.VocabularySpellingCity.com
whoa, very cool jokercollector!
Hunter. Glad you like the collection. It has its own blog which has had zero design work which is embarrassing. However, I did get a designer to work with me on a project fulfilling my lifelong ambition to get my own jokers designed:

Notice that I used the characters from these games:

Nice! Great joker collection. Do you typically have to buy the whole deck, or can you find the joker on its own?
I have bought many many many decks. Some people send me collections. I've done some ebay buys but they tend to have large number of duplicates since often it's 25 jokes for $12, but only a few might be new to me. Years ago, I traded with someone. I might even have "lifted" a few during the years, I don't remember.
Interesting. Yeah I was wondering about the potential for "lifting" them as well. :)
