I've been meaning to post this one for a while, but not got round to it. I was super excited when I found it on French ebay - especially as it was a bargain!
I believe that it is Loetz, Mimosa decor, in Rosa, or red, which I gather from the experts is the hardest colour to find. I'm not so sure, from a personal point of view - I have seen plenty of candia (for these purposes, gold), and I even own one, but I am finding the creta (green) and the cobalt (blue) as hard to spot as the rosa, except here on CW! For all the colours, see SteveS' great collection - http://www.collectorsweekly.com/stories/39511-colors---and-mimosa
My little rosa is cut from the top - no pontil - and not the most exciting shape, but I love it. I have tried to show in the pictures the variation in the iridescence (note the purple on the shoulders and near the base), and the smoothness of the finish. I understand that Mimosa is marked out from other crackle finishes in particular by the smoothness of the surface of the glass. There is no roughness to the touch at all. Al has a great explanation of a variety of different crackle finishes from different makers, with examples, in his posts.
And now I will wait to be told I have got it wrong again ...
100 % Loetz Rosa Mimosa.
Thank you Obscurities & LoetzBuddies. I like the shape too - there's nowt wrong with being understated!
And you're right, Obscurities, about the colours - thank you. I meant to type pink, it is pink (dark pink, admittedly) - I didn't even realise I had typed red, until you pointed it out! I was clearly having brain freeze - the boys were pestering me to let them take photos with the black light, so I wasn't concentrating properly. It's not a good excuse, but it's the best I've got! And of course I can't edit and hide my mistake now, as your comments wouldn't make sense. Dang!
Thank you for the loves, Gary, Inky, Dave, Vetraio50, Austro, & Dasullywon.
...on my wish list.
Thank you Mac63 and Al. I was rather pleased with it! It wasn't even described as Loetz . . . I knew my schoolgirl French would come in handy one day.
Thank you too, to KS85 and Petey.
Perfect in every way! I love the shape and the color too!
Thank you, LoetzDance. The icing on the cake? The price was less than 80 euros - about $100. I thought that was a bargain ...
And thank you, Great Snowy Owl & MacArt.
Thanks, famatta127!
Thank you, Sean!
Thanks Al - I think I was already loving them while you were commenting here!
Have some of yours appeared on CW before? I pointed people to your crackle posts, including Mimosas, in the post above.
Oh, my mistake - I thought some of them were the same as the ones at http://www.collectorsweekly.com/stories/26510-crackle-glass-loetz-and-rindskopf
because you said you only had one cobalt.
Oh no, don't ! The first one has the information about Rindskopf crackle, which is really useful. Or you could re-post the Rindskopf I suppose!
Thank you, Mike & Debbie!
Thank you, famatta127 and SteveS.
