Am right in thinking this may be a Franz Welz piece of glass, that's not my query although I hope someone will tell me if it is or isn't!

My query is! has it allways been a lamp or did it start life off as a vase and has been converted at some stage.

Unfortunately as you can see the black base has been broken it happened awhile ago now, but even then when I new less then the little I know now couldn't bring myself to through it away, I was always going to have another base made.

It had a black glass base part of it can be seen in the photo. On the inside of the base, which wouldn't have been seen when in place are the raised mark of K.K.K.

I have searched and never been able to find one, so I'm hoping someone can tell me.

Approx...24cm or 9.1/2 inches tall to the rim, the red is a little darker than seen and not orange.

    Thanks for looking.

Obscurities - czechman most of glass has come from a thrift shop or bought extremely cheap at a second hand shop. I am very much a novice, always loved glass but never thought any more about it till I came here. When I get a piece the only way for me to learn is by being told what it is or a hint anyway to make research easier and it helps when I'm looking at and for the next time I'm seeking. I am too scared to spent to much as I have no idea unless blatantly obvious. I have made MANY!!! mistakes and bought rubbish and I don't want rubbish, but it is has been good learning. I am in awe when you describe your pieces. I don't know anybody else that collects this lovey glass, I am on my own apart from a gentleman who is a member here! and has put up with my bombardment of question a lovely man and who has helped me untold, and you guys here on CW... I would like to say thank you!...:-)

Hi, Penny! I know how you feel - I'm in London, but even here I didn't know anyone who collected this glass til I came to CW. I too bombard people with questions - mostly daft, in my case, and handled with grace and generosity by people here (you know who you are). As for the mistakes ... Well you've seen my posts, and that's not the worst of it! So, welcome to the learners club - long may the experts indulge us! Nicole

Great piece of glass, I wonder if it was made by the Ku Klux Klan?

You could put a clear plastic block for the base to fix it. Many older Murano lamps are updated that way.

      Eg:

      just a thought....
