I'm posting this in light of Obscurities' posts concerning vases he has recently attributed to Schliersee.
This is the vase that usually gets a Schliersee attribution - it is pictured and described as such on page 22 of Cappa's Le Genie Verrier de l'Europe.
My poor French translates that description as "19cm tall, 9cm diameter, creation of Jean Beck circa 1905-1908 for the Schliersee factory, signed in gold on the base "295 II/849", cobalt blue glass, blown and worked. Sylised decor painted in heat treated gold over an iridescent ground."
Mine matches that description perfectly, down to the markings on the base. The one in the book has equally poorly preserved gilded decor to the body of the vase, so it may be an issue with this production.
Obscurities made his attribution based on surface decor (which is a little different from this vase, as I have tried to show), thick glass and the double bevel on the rim. Here you can see the thickness of the glass and the double bevel (admittedly a little obscured by the dirt I have not yet managed to remove). The glass is 1/2 cm thick - which is pretty thick on a piece where the diameter of the mouth, outside edge to outside edge, is only 3cm.
To my inexperienced eye, there is also a similarity of shape - similar school as Obscurities put it. Note the shape of my vase compared with the top section of Obscurities' blue one, and note the similarities of foot on both vases - http://www.collectorsweekly.com/stories/74955-glatt-silberiris--a-regional-comparison?in=441.
Apologies for the quality of the pics - best I can do on a dark, rainy afternoon in London!

Jean Beck!! There's a lot of pieces attiributed to him but this is one of the first ones I see that's really his :)

By the way,I guess you alewady know this site devoted to his work: http://www.jeanbeck.de/

Thanks Austro! That site is amazing - I just wish I spoke German! Shouting more loudly in English just doesn't seem to work ... Tee hee!
The attribution certainly looks convincing, but Cappa does not cite his source, and he can be dodgy on other things ...

You're welcome, LLL!!! Well, I think GoogleTranslate works fine from German to English... take advantage of that!!! :)

Yep - it is a reasonable fallback, but it's not the same. My French is good enough to have a go at Cappa and I can even remember a tiny bit of Spanish, at least enough to have a go at a bit of written Spanish to English, but I never got into German lessons :( Somewhat regretting that now!

I tread learning it when I was dating someone from Bremen... Splitting up was easier than learning the basics in German :/ LOL

"I tried" instead of "I tread"... I should doble check my messages before sending them LOL

I know what you mean - the idea of taking up German now is too daunting!
