It looks like I found an original Stanley plane #1 . I'm sure it says Dec 24 ,1867 on the frog it's called I presume.
On the lever Pat.Feb 8.76 then below says STANLEY
then below says Pat.Oct21.84.
The depth adjustment knob is brass which means early to Me. It is knurled and has a relief in the center of the circumference of the brass knob.
The lumber looks good the handle and the round knob on front .
Intact and in very good condition with original parts.
Not rusty.
This is a very early model and quite rare in good condition.
looks like an old Stanley hand-plainer - my dad has one like this, still uses it.
I wonder if the Stanley plane you have is possibly a number two. If memory serves a number one was never made with a lateral adjuster, [the part illustrated in the rightmost photograph]. The standard online reference to type and dateStanley planes is called blood and gore and was written by tool dealer Patrick Leach. Good guy and good values too.
