To me this decoration is similar to some Phanomens. I really don't see the difference.

I think the difference between phanomen and ausf, is just a shift in language used from prewar to postwar.

I wondered where it went to, I was going to bid on it and he ended the auction early.

The decor is similar to earlier Phen Genre and that was the problem in the marketplace. To the critics, Loetz appeared to be repeating itself in the deco period with designs it found successful 15-20 years earlier. I think its one of the nicest designs of the period and different enough to stand on its own merits.

sensitive issue Kyle. :) What he paid is sure to be far less then the going rate so it's not going to give too much in site as to market value. I tend to haunt ended live auctioneers for values.

I found one on Liveauctioneers that sold for 1600 euros in 2006 and it looks like that one may have a little nick on the rim. it;s estimate was 1600 to 1900 euros another one was listed that didn't sell that appears to have a perfect rim. it had an estimate of 2200 euros to 2900 euros also year 2006

Thanks to all for the comments. Regarding price : it's from Santa so it's a secret.
And regarding Phanomen vs. Ausfuhrung I tend to agree it's the time period when made.

Great example of Ausf 227 thea Federn (translation: feather or spring). Interestingly, while Cantz places the production of this decor in 1925 and the shape of your vase, PN III-2331, is listed in Band 2 under this date, I have an Ausf 227 (PN II-5720) that is listed in Band 2 as being produced in 1908. My vase has the oval Czec mark as well so it looks like this decor did have a span of several years which would explain the Phen look to it! I purchased my vase from CAG in 2007 with the BP it was over $1,000 . Here's the link to it on LA: http://www.liveauctioneers.com/item/4373554

I forgot to mention that I wouldn't sell my vase for what I paid for it!! :)

depends on what it is if the values are inflated or not. rare items haven't really gone down that much. common items have deflated.

Boy, I watch prices on Loetz too and I haven't noticed a deflation in price for any of the decors. This July a 7 1/2" orange Aeolus in a very plain shape sold for over $1000! I also noticed a nice Rusticana in a Christopher Dresser shape go for over $300 not too long ago. I'm sure there are deals out there but in general I don't think prices are down. Actually, as far as investments go, I have always thought Loetz has held pretty stable price wise for a number of years and the dividend is that you get to look at it every day!

I wasn't meaning loetz in particular with that comment. I meant in general.

but... with that in mind. I remember about 4 years ago there was no such thing as loetz under 100 dollars or even under 200 for the most part unless it was woefully under identified. Rusticana may in some instances get over three hundred but you have to admit that's more the exception than the rule. plain green loetz is a little bit of a hard sell ATM. It does seem to me like common loetz has gone down a little in value.

ebay prices are also always lower than other venues.
