    Hi,

I found these and have been trying to do some research on them. I have a feeling after looking on the net that they might be butter pat molds. They are about 3" in diameter and are made of metal maybe brass from the color. They are raised about a half inch from the base. Any help would be great.

    Thanks
    Doug

You don't show a side view or top view but they are definitely, probably, maybe butter moulds. Do they have a round wooden dowel sticking out the back?

Thanks for the reply. No they don't have anything on the back. The bottom has a flat spot that they sit on. They are in a bowl shape.

I don't think they are for butter then. 3" sounded a little large from the 1's I have seen. All the 1's I've seen are a taper sided mold with a hole in the bottom that a dowel on the design piece like you have goes. When cool, you push on the dowel & the butter comes out with the design on top, but you probably already know all this.

I thought maybe they were unfinished pieces of enamel ware? The copper has had initial decoration added and they need the later stage of addition of enamels and firing.

Thanks for all the comments. The extra info is helping. I found a good amount of these when cleaning out a basement and would love to find out what they are. So any information and ideas of what they might be are welcome. I will look into the unfinished enamel ware lead.
