This is an antique doll that was handed down to a dear friend from Germany, it's porcelian and unique in the fact that it has blond hair, as most of the "bath dolls"/Frozen Charlie's from this area have brown hair. I am researching for my friend, trying to find some history (beyond what is known). These dolls where originally made as "bath dolls" and have a hole in the back-side to drain the water after the lad was done taking a bath. Porcelain and hand-painted - still researching....fascinated...and learning...

Some history
Frozen Charlotte (aka Frozen Charlie) is a name used to describe a specific form of china doll made from c. 1850 to c. 1920. The name comes from the American folk ballad Fair Charlotte, "Frozen Charlotte" dolls took their name from a poem and song about a real New York girl, Charlotte, who went riding with her beau, Charlie, to a winter ball in 1840. She left without her wrap against her mother's wishes and by the time they arrived, she had frozen to death. The story says Charlie soon died of a broken heart and they were buried together in one tomb. As the story has been passed down I can not verify it is how they got the name but this is the story as i know it . The dolls were made for many purposes and could be dressed by owner . Some were made for bath and others not .
I love this doll !!!!!! Thanks for sharing her /him :-)
