The link to the history of this beautiful fire extinguisher we found in an attic located in Elmira, NY, when my boyfriend was employed to do demolition work. We were excited to find out that it was locally produced, though the company is no longer in business here in Elmira, NY. The American LaFrance company was located in Elmira, New York from 1873 to 1985.
The model number is 2 1/2B, class 4-B:C, it is a dry chemical extinguisher. This was made in 1961 here in Elmira , New York. It was US Coast Guard approved for use, inspected and passed by UL (Underwriters Laboratories Inc). It even has the recharging instructions on label and still retains it original tin holder that was painted to match the brass extinguisher.
