Found this in a thrift store in Los Angeles California.
I recognized the signature of Win Ng.
Win Ng (April 13, 1936 - September 6, 1991) was a Chinese American sculptor, industrial designer and illustrator. He is best known as the co-founder of the groundbreaking San Francisco based handmades department store Taylor & Ng.
I recognized the signature because Win Ng did incredible enamel pieces. He studied with Jade Snow Wong a famous enamelist.
I am a collector of mid century enamel.
This piece appears to be a print but not sure. It is signed. The signature looks to be done with a different kind of pen.
In "The Art of Win Ng a Retrospective"-( the booklet from the Chinese Historical Society of America show April 13 - July 24,2005) I found a picture of the piece.
This original piece is called Chinatown- ink on paper 1961. The size is 22 x 28. This piece is from the collection of Beatrice & Dr. Gordon Mo. This piece has a red chop in the lower right hand corner. I am assuming that this was the original. I don't know.
The piece that I found was framed in Chicago and framed with a very good frame. Maybe my print came from the store Taylor & Ng.
I would love to know more about this beautiful piece.
