I’m just beginning to learn about Bohemian glass and saw this vase for sale. It’s about 5 inches tall and overlaid with silver bearing the mark of La Pierre. Dark amber glass over white glass with a clear glass top layer which can be seen at the polished pontil. The surface iridescence has a lot of reds and greens that add to the overall brown color. The seller has given the age as circa 1900. No signature or mark on the glass. Does anyone have an idea of what it’s worth and who might have made it? It’s certainly a pretty piece.
the vase is definitely harrach. and I personally would never pay anything close to the sellers 1400 dollar price tag for a small silver plated example but ymmv. value is dictated by how much money someone is willing to shell out at any given time for something.
Hi GSO,
Thanks very much for the speedy feedback. Since I’m on the low slope of the learning curve re art glass, will you tell me how you made the I.D. Had you seen a picture, or are there certain characteristics that say Harrach to you? Any additional info would be much appreciated.
I just happen to know this type of glass. :) It's documented in the harrach book and the passau museum. A very similar piece is in passau. same shape same glass type and a similar but not identical overlay.
you may have a sows ear for a pocketbook but you have champagne for taste -- love it
