Measures app. 2x3 feet. Frame is wood, and emossed "Philip Morris & Co" on top and "London" on bottom. Construction pre 1900's, with square headed nails.
Inside is very well hand painted, and gold emossed print on paper. Reads: "PHILIP MORRIS & Co.'s. CELEBRATED BOND STREET CIGARETTES. LONDON."(all gold embossed). Top left side displays a silver embossed crown of the Prince of Wales and says "BY APPOINTMENT" on top. Top right side displays two bears with a bale of tobacco between them; on top of this it says, "TRADEMARK.", and below says, "REGISTERED." The center again displays the two bears and tobacco only larger.
On the very bottom in small print it says, "SUTTON SHARPE & Co , 145 QUEEN VICTORIA St. , LONDON", who I believe to be the printer.
I truly think this is an original and one of a kind, and may be the first P.M. sign made.
