This is my latest 1924 British "GPO" candlestick #150 and bell box #41.
It has a solid brass receiver, painted brown. Brown was the choice color back in the days for this particular telephone. The cords were "braided"; also original with most old European phones.

      hi
I am looking for one and found several on Ebay. But, someone who says he knows old phones well & repairing for years say all Ebay phones are fake. And some sellers may not know. He says there shouldnt be screws anywhere & that there must be a stamp print (wrong word) on back of speaking piece.

I am so confused. Then some sellers say you need a box after updating phone, some say you dont you just plug in wall & its simple to do.

I found one with a Kellog earpiece but phone is WE. Can you mix parts?

      Thank you
      Cindy

Lots of newer 1970's reproductions on EBay. These were reproduced in India. I purchased a British phone like this "original 1924 GPO" here. Only to find out it was about 90% reproduction! Boy was I mad! Seller wanted to give me "credit" but not my money back. So I kept it and put in my booth my local Antique Mall for half of what I paid. Be careful if seller uses the word "RETRO" another word for FAKE OR REPRODUCTION.
Got to do your homework and close up viewing to tell if a fake or not. This is how I figured out my first GPO BRITISH CANDLESTICK was a fake.
This one here I posted is all ORIGINAL.....

As you say the British GPO candlestick telephone market is a minefield. 95% of these telephones are reproductions. Some are easy to spot and others are very similar (at first glance) until you put them side by side with an original. I can confirm the one you posted is original.
PS the solid brass receiver is coated in "Ebonite" (a vulcanised rubber) rather than painted brown :-)
