Hello Everyone - Hope you are a having a great time and are healthy during this holiday season!

I recently purchased 12 spoon ( two large serving and 8 large tablespoons. I have looked everywhere and can't seem to find out who H&G is. My research say they sterling silver, made in Sheffield in 1816? or 1814? or 19 61?
    I'm lost and confused! :-)
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you and Happy Holidays!
    Lauren

I get Sheffield, England, 1861, but can not find makers mark?
      It's a start!

Looks like it's Gee & Holmes,(1959-1984) but now the initial date does not make sense.

What is the weight of 1 of the teaspoons?
    4. BHock45 BHock45, 12 years ago
I am stumped too. Maybe someone will chime in.

Perhaps Gee & Holmes existed at the time your set was made, but was less known or had a slightly different name. I notice that many firms and companies change names, initials, hallmarks etc. as the generations pass. This is literally a wild desperate guess.

      Best of luck!

      Thank you for your comments.
Pickerknows: Thank you for the links ... I hadn't found the one with Gee Holmes ... but, due to the date marks, I am still confused lol
BHock45: The smaller spoon ( table spoon) weights 2.2 ounces.

is where I got the 1961 date idea .... Which I guess would tie up nicely with Gee & Holmes?
      Mystery solved?

oh yes, I hadnt seen the marks passed 1915 that is it! You are correct.

Gee & Holmes London Sterling....I wonder what the pattern is called :)
    9. Laureniscontent, 12 years ago
I have no clue what the pattern is ... lol ... I wasn't even sure they were sterling (didn't have my glasses with me) ... I needed more larger serving type spoons and there they were at a yard sale ... $20.00 for the bunch. Even if they didn't match my own set there are enough that it works.
Thank you so much for all your help ... I guess i will mark this string solved!
      Happy Holidays! Be Well!

The pattern is either King's or Queen's.
They look like the less elaborate King's pattern to me. Check here:
      http://www.antiquesilverspoons.co.uk/patterns.htm
A really popular pattern. People always need them for replacements.
If you like them you got a really good bargain on a starter group.

vetraio: Thank you for that information and link.

I needed serving spoons so I bought them. When I got home and read them I realized that they were sterling .. I now have to polish them and no dishwasher .. lol They have no scratches or anything so I guess I have to be careful too lol .... But, I do like them :-) and I may go back and buy the rest of the set in the box tomorrow ( $ 45.00 for a full set forks, knives, spoons, etc ... and put them in the closet)

One of the best things about being retired is you have time to stop places you might not stop otherwise :-)

I would absolutely do so. Don't tell me where they are or I will beat you there!!! :). You got a GREAT deal! One of your teaspoons is worth more than 45.00. I would say go for it if you can!

Thanks so much for all of your help and ideas.

Went back and bought the box (serving for 8 plus serving pieces) for the $45.00 it's in the closet under my shoe boxes until I decide to get fancy :-)

Got a few other things as well .. will have to post two as I have no idea what they are.
