I am not much of a 19th century handwriting expert so I am looking for help with a word in this document. I have not been able to read the last word of the third line down and the first few words of the fourth line. All I know is that it involves some sort of Society.

It is an agreement for members to pay for upgrades to a meeting house (usually would mean a church or place of worship) grounds:

We the undersigned desirous to have the yard around
the meeting house finished and trees purchased to set in
the yard agree to pay Daniel I. (or J.) Hunt Treasurer of the Congregation
al Society agree to pay the sums affixed to our (??) names
for the above object which is estimated at 50 dollars
including the (??) of twenty dollars in building the Fences--

      Just a guess here.
"including the deficiency of twenty dollars in building the Fences--". Deficiency being defined as "a lack or insufficiency; shortage.".

Thanks everyone for your input. AR8Jason, it was found in NH. I am also unsure about what the abbreviation "DIH" stands for as it is near many of the names of the contributors. Also before the date appears to be the name of a town but it is very hard to make it.

Thank you very much AR8Jason. Any help is greatly appreciated.

The names are clearly written with different hands and reflect actual signatures of the donors.

The "X" and treasurers initials ("DIH") would most likely reflect an accounting notation by the treasurer that the payment had been received ("Rd").

I deal a lot in 19th century paper and after reading a good quantity of it, it becomes fairly easy to read. Of course there are always a few words that are hard to decipher, but the overall content is clear.

Thanks Scottvez. I collect old paper documents but I do not come across too many 19th century documents. I probably have more experience reading 18th century documents than 19th century. Can you make out the word before the date on the document?

Thanks AR8Jason. I will continue to research the names as well as where it may be from.
