Hello,
Here are some pictures of my bakelite mantel clock.
I bought it in Spain some years ago, and it looks like a French mantel clock from the twenties of the twentieth century (art deco?).
The only text I can discover is on the dial that says "monet".
It weighs about 2 kilo's . The color is hard coal. It doesn't run.
Maybe someone can tell me more about the clock.

I'm not familiar with "Monet" clocks and can't be of much help....
It looks like a time-only timepiece with one spring driving the time train through to a balance wheel escapement. The outer loop of what appears to be the hairspring looks a little "wild". It may be okay. Why do you think it is "bakelite" and not some type of metal case? It doesn't appear to be very large to weigh 2 kilos. The dial needs to be rotated clock-wise about 5-10 degrees. May have happened during winding. Probably needs to have the movement tightened where it fastens to the case.
Do you have a winding key for it? If so, have you tried to see if it runs?
Thanks Bruce for all the information. You might be right about the case; it looked like bakelite, because of the color, but more likely it can be metal. I better change the title.
The hairspring is not wound up. You're also right about the dial; it's not centered exactly. The clock is about 15 to 20 centimeters wide, and about 10 to 15 centimeters in height. I do have the winding key for the clock; I removed the back lid, to show the inside of the clock .
