This photo shows some members of the German Army at Der Seigistor in Munich during WWII.

As did most of the European Nations, the Germans erected such Victory Arches to commemorate successful military campaigns.

Please see comment #4 from vetraio50 for a correction on this photo, which is in Paris, and not in Munich, as I had thought.

I appreciate all of vetraio50s input on clarifying the locations of these photo sites.

Hi, Ted! This one is not the "Der Seigestor". It's also Paris. This one has the Germans not far from the Louvre at another historical site showing their power over the French:
"The Arc de Triomphe du Carrousel is a triumphal arch in Paris, located in the Place du Carrousel on the site of the former Tuileries Palace. It was built between 1806 and 1808 to commemorate Napoleon's military victories of the previous year. The more famous Arc de Triomphe de l'Étoile nearby was designed in the same year, but it took thirty years to build, and it is about twice as massive."
      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arc_de_Triomphe_du_Carrousel

Note Peace riding in the triumphal chariot on top!
On top of the very similar der Siegestor (en: Victory Gate) you have a statue of Bavaria and four lions, "similar in style to the Arch of Constantine in Rome, the Marble Arch in London, the Arc de Triomphe in Paris and the Brandenburger Tor in Berlin. It is located between the Ludwig Maximilian University and the Ohmstrasse, where the Ludwigstrasse (south) ends and the Leopoldstrasse (north) begins. It thus sits at the boundary between the two Munich districts of Maxvorstadt and Schwabing."
