I wonder if anyone could identify this container.
I have been trying to downsize for months and came
across this small urn I had purchased in my younger days
    at an estate sale.

It is wooden, weighs just over 5 oz., and is approximately
4 3/4 in. wide by 7 1/2 in. high. The base had broken off and
had been secured loosely to the vessel with a nail. The inside very
bottom appears to once have been painted silver with the majority
of the inside a worn reddish colour. It appears very old & :) smells old. Could it have been used in a religious ceremony? A label on the bottom reads "Loaned by Rev. Kora Blinoff".

Thank you for the suggestion epson233. I had the same thought. I initially did a negative Slavic search but did not proceed further due my assumption the word Rev. (Reverend) may not, generally, be the form of address used. There is a good
chance the urn may have evolved from these areas. Thanks again, I check further.

This nice piece of Folkart is called treen-ware. It was turned on a lathe and hand painted with all those colors. A lot of treen-ware was brought over from Germany with the early settlers to America. A large group of them populated Lancaster County in Pennsylvania and are known as the Pennsylvania Dutch. The info on the bottom suggests the piece may have been in a collection and lent out for a show of some kind; perhaps to a museum or library showing. I am not up on current values on treen-ware these days, but originals, especially with hand painting could be valuable. Look up treen ware on google and see what you can find. If I see anything else of help, I will post it. gina
