a pair of nude lamps. With one of the lighting modes the figures rotate and change colors (blue, green, red etc:). Then another lighting mode as shown the whole lamp lights up. These two pieces are in excellent condition. They are 16" high and the widest width would be the shell which is 12 inches.

The bottom unscrewed has a color wheel inside to give that fiber optic look in the one lighting mode. I have to replace a mini screw bulb inside the one with the female nude. I just got these from auction. they both work, except for the female nude's color show. The hard plastic like figures are beautiful, but not sure of the material nor do I even know what year these were made. I'm thinking late 70's deco? Can anyone help me out indentifying these beautiful lamps? The black clam shell appears to be a resin or casting material??? I just know they are both very heavy. The figures sit on a rotating platform, they can be removed as they are just sitting on the platform and not glued. I believe the one lamp may have been damaged during shipping, since I cannot get it to do the 2nd lighting, the burned out mini bulb. So far, I find this to be a mystery, I would appreciate anyone can give me a indentity and who made these lamps. Thank you.

Hello amrose, if you go to http://www.collectorsweekly.com/stories/65536-underwriters-laboratories-portable-lamp?in=192 you can see a similar one. I think these are 1980's or newer. Also you can go to http://www.liveauctioneers.com/item/5637498 to see a pair that sold at auction for $25 (one is missing the figure).

I thank you for your help. I am still looking, and I did contact the person you who also has one on this site. Perhaps with more coverage, we will get to find out who made these beautiful lamps. I just have to get the right mini bulb or get a new socket for the color wheel bulb, deep inside the lamp. These will be a gift to my husband, and I have already told him, he might have to fix one of his gifts! I am curious as to who made them, they are unique in their own way. :)

UPDATE: I got the right mini bulb now and just fixed the color wheel light!! Yeah! So now, they both work just fine. I cleaned the lamps up and the figures and I cannot wait to set them up on Christmas Morning for my hubby!! The frosted figures just set on top of the rotating color wheel stand. So I can put the figures on either one of the lamps. I just wish now, who made these and what is the material those figures are made of?

Well, My hubby loved his gift on Christmas morning. He loved these pair of lamps. I was able to fix the light, which was the tiny light bulb under the color wheel, which has to be a brass base. ( I bought old new stock for lionel train lights) this worked perfectly. You also have to make sure these lamps are perfectly flat, so the figures on the rotating base do not fall off their base. These lamps are not for sale. My hubby loves them. :)

Our Lamps are still beautiful, and not for sale. My husband loves them and enjoys sitting, basking in the colorful lights of the statues.

      Hi Amrose,

I just came across your information as I was searching on information on this type of lamp. I am trying to repair one like it & wondered if you could post the information on the exact type of bulb you found to repair the color wheel?

My lamp is missing the socket for the bulb under the color wheel & I am trying to figure out how/if I can rewire it. The wheel still works & I have the plastic piece where the color wheel bulb fits...but alas, no socket or bulb type to steer me in the right direction...let alone a wiring diagram ;)

      Thank you,

      Jeff

      ...all sorted.

Had to put in a new mini bulb socket for the color wheel. Still no idea of manufacturer though. ;)

I have one of these with a nude couple kissing leaning toward each other over a tree trunk. Everything works including the color wheel, when the colors are on they are like liquid waves of color. Contact me for info if you want to see pics :)

I have two of the same mermaid lamps and have been searching trying to figure out who made them? My grandfather gave them to me and he said he paid a good amount for them but really couldn't remember but he doesn't buy cheap item's. Has anyone found out anything? Anything at all? Thank you!

I just bought one on eBay, please don't ask what I paid but needless to say I hadn't seen this page prior.
I love the lamp though, it reminds me of 'Pania of the Reef'. A NZ Maori folk story.
In very small lettering on the cardboard base it reads 'Made in China' ... and that's it, no other identifying markers at all.
If you Google 'Pania of the Reef' statue you will understand what I mean.
      Andy
