This is quite old~ I do not know anything about it. I know a lot about wood and I assure that this wood has quite the 'Patina'. There is no "Rot" whatsoever. What looks like rot is a manifestation of decay, but from over a long period of time in a humid environment or it was buried in clay (there are no residues of clay. It is carved from a solid hardwood. I am a wood expert of wood (30 years) but without looking at the cellular structure through a microscope I cannot identify it.
It was purchased at a "junk shop" in Virginia.
It is about eighteen inches tall.
Any help would be so greatly appreciated. The apparel it is wearing, where is it from; India, Africa~ Asia; etc,? And what does the apparel mean ceremoniously i.e. war, festival, or whatever? Thank You!

Please help me in identifying and dating this piece

It's quite beautiful! Looks as if it could have been architectural, maybe some balaustre? It doesn't look like the stand is original. Beautiful! Enjoy!

Thank You,es I realize that the mounting piece is not part of it, as well I don't like the way in which it is mounted. I think it should be simpler. And i agree that it appears to be a part of furniture or architecture.
I would like to know from what its origins are.

Hi, this is from a Hindu Chariot (Ratha) that would have been pulled down the streets by hand during festivals in India. Some of these chariot would be 3-4 stories high, with 1000 carvings on them. Your pieces looks to have some age for sure. I actually collect this type of art. If you come across any more of these pieces please let me know, I would love to see them or if you are a seller then purchase from you. Thanks for sharing!
