just recently acquired my second spool holder -- this one is not as fancy as the brass one posted earlier -- it is made of cast iron -- again have no clue as to age -- the threads on the spindles are not metric -- so i doubt it is from the orient -- ted and i spent part of the day at Hippo's a lamp, lighting & plumbing store in portland, oregon purchasing her some new jewelry -- the original ceramic knob was in very poor condition and we also purchased the three little gold circles for each tear -- you can see one of them under the ceramic knob -- she now is much tighter and spins as she should -- of course she had to have the "mommy treatment" on the brass spindles -- the top tear has the wording -- "A Stitch In Time Saves Nine" and the bottom stand has the raised American Eagle carrying the arrows of war and looking right -- so that perhaps may tell me this item was pre Truman -- perhaps Teddy Roosevelt reign or before -- on the other side is stamp in raised numbers 1776 -- this date i again highly doubt
my first love -- thanks blunderbuss2
I would love to have one of these! I would put in a conspicuous place to drive friends crazy (crazier) trying to figure out what it is or what it does. Could have real fun with that! My friends are like me. Have to be bodily carried out of a hardware store because we can't figure out what that gizmo does.
well blunderbuss you are a man after my own heart -- which you already know -- i love harbor freight and for me to go to Hippos is a real treat -- ted and i spent the whole day in the neat old hardware stores in downtown portland -- just amazing what you can find -- sometimes steals and sometimes "OUCHES" on pricing -- guess my favorite part of cw is when a member post a "What Is It" -- have a great evening cutie -- love ya
Epson, you are a sick puppy! LOVE IT! I am an inventor by nature. Won a few $100's with WoodWorker mag.. Have a girl-neighbour who does the same thing. Sometimes I have to go in & pull her out. Could we be compatable?
oh i've been told that one before -- in not so kind of words -- more like you are one sick B_ _ _ _ _ -- which i wear with pride -- and yes i believe we are joined at the hip
thanks vetraio, MrsAR8Jason, spiritinthesky, kerry and mustangtony for the loves --
thanks kevin for the loves -- you and the mrs's have a great weekend -- happy hunting -- ted's and my favorite pastime sport also
thanks sean -- yes it did and i was very pleased with it -- getting a bit of a fetish going for these -- still think they are a hodge podge of items and not of the era they are claimed to be from -- but what a pretty hodge podge they are and of course they allow me the creativity to embellish even more -- perhaps 20 years from now someone will come across mine and scratch their head and wonder -- what era are you from -- have a great weekend -- got the chili going this morning if you would like to join ted and me
thanks leah for the loves -- have a great week -- don't get too much telephone ear haha
thanks to all for the loves --
