    hi. i am posting a great rocking chair. not sure if it is chinese or japanese. i don't know how old it is. i tried to take pictures of the back of it. it has a wonderful drawing.

      I would vote for neither.

      Stylistically I'd call it Empire and American made.

      The black back painting looks rough and probably covers another more typical floral design. The owner may have visited the orient or seen the oriental design and wanted to update the chair.

      I don't think it is that old-- probably middle of the 20th century. I'd want to look closer to confirm.

      The finish on the chair is called "Japanning", I think.
