This is a chair that was discovered in an old shed . The seat has springs running from front to back andd are covered in a black fabric. Does anyone know what style of chair it is? The back is really uncomfortable which makes me think it should have a cushion on the back and on the seat. There are no holes in the frame of the back or seat to indicate that there were permanent cushions in place. Can anyone help with the style of the chair and what type of cushions it should have?

I had one similiar that i loved and picked up up as flea market find. My sewing machine had broken so i was using my moms i had tracedout a pattern of the back detachable wing cushions and had to stop mid sommer but was planning to finish once i got my own machine again this winter. I bought a new one in jan. went to sew and found ou my husband who is clueless abou its petsonal value and has very little interest in antiques had burned, he inremorseful now but i have just sick about it for days, mine, hrd rock maple and he clelessly burned it. Doghouse now and i am sick bout it if you need cushion pattern to make i will give tracing-sborger

Let me know my chair had cross bars to make the wings and they flared more and had a tacked on pinched pleated skirt with braid trim and a detachable cushion and detachable wing cushion back...i cant help it im just depressed it sat lower like a granny chair but ive heard called hearth chairs or sat lower due to old full skirts in victorian times, likely mine was a 60's repro but i didnt care it was sturdt and solid, with the right cushion it would sit higher. Example a thicker 6" foam carved out with electric turkey knife. I miss it badly...-sb

It is some kind of windsor arm chair. I cannot tell if it is original or not.

It is very hard to tell. Can you add some photos of the bottom of the seat and perhaps a close up of the joints. Usually the really old ones had a very thing top stretcher across the back like yours.

Also, can you see wood under the black paint? Where it is wearing off, on the arms, look on the legs where the feat would hit. There is a possibility this is an old timer.
