Purchased this off Craigslist for $60 & in the process of restoring it to be used for a linen chest. I had to remove some screws to replace the straps and discovered they were square!

Nice old trunk -- rare to find them with the leather straps intact. Need any help with the restoration let me know-- good luck and thanks for the post!
I'd love any advice I can get!! I've cleaned up the wood with Murphy's oil & pre-stain conditioning and it looks great so far! Any idea where I could get new leather straps & how to eliminate the musty smell?
Nice find...welcome to cw!
You can order new handles from BRETTUNS VILLAGE TRUNK SHOP and a few other places. I put a fabric softener dryer sheet in my trunks and they help a lot. There are a couple of other ways like leaving them open in the sun for a day or two.
Open as in outside? My only issue is I'm on a 3rd floor apartment. I'll try the dryer sheets now!
That is one of my favorites. I heard leaving a bowl of vinegar in it with the lid closed for a few days.. also, coffee. Looks like fun.
I have the twin to your trunk - mine is heather blue/grey, but missing the two top-straps and its key. Does yours have a working lock? If so, is there a key-number or code on it? Maybe that will help me identify what I need to buy. Thanks!
