These are really wonderful older Japanese Christmas cards designed to be sent overseas! We don't really see these types any more in the few shops that sell Christmas cards. Japanese people themselves don't really send Christmas cards because the custom here is to send New Year postcards. Later, I'll try to find the Christmas cards I received here in Japan about 30 years ago. They are absolutely stunning!
On the left, you can see that the Japanese color sensibility is different from what you'd see in Western countries. The youthful kimono clad girl in the photo, perhaps an apprecentice geisha, is strolling along the path at the Kinkakuji (Golden Pavillion) in Kyoto, in the card on the far left. The other card depicts a Japanese castle.
