This is a hand forged steel rake. It measure 14 inches wide and as you can see it is pretty crude.

I have had this hanging on the wall forever. It makes me think about how it must have been back when these types of tool were made.

I'm guessing early 1800's? maybe older

I would appreciate any info, Thanks

i have this very long piece of iron which looks like the rake end of this piece - but 14' long. it's got holes in it to screw it into the barn wall and i assume to hang things on, but i've never been sure. i found it in a barn when i was a kid. it's also hand-forged - looks just like your beautiful rake.

ho2cultcha, That sounds more like a piece of rail used for feeding.

maybe it was made out of an old hay-rake wheel that had been cut and straightened and the spokes cut and hammered for the teeth? (it kind of reminds me of an old, old wheel from my grandpas horse drawn hay rake.)
