Some of the Navy rating badges and hash marks I have collected over the years. AR8Jason aka (Kevin) can inform us of the rates and years of service. photo (1) starts with the Navy gray, Marine Corps Green, white, Navy Blue. Kevin can also tell us why the eagle faces right on the gunners mate and left on all others?

here is a link concerning how the eagle faces: http://www.history.navy.mil/faqs/faq78-5.htm

the hash marks represent 4 years of service of each. The 3 gold hashes represent 12 consecutive years of good behavior; 12 consecutive years of good behavior were required to wear the gold.

technically that should be called "Good Conduct" which was issued every 4 years when I was in the Navy. Here's another link about the Good Conduct metal and info about the gold: http://www.usamilitarymedals.com/navy-good-conduct-medal-p-126.html

I seem to recall that the "E" patch is the Battle Efficiency Award, called the Navy Battle "E". I think I had one once upon a time from one of the many deployments during my time in the Navy.

I started collecting Petty Officer First Class rates when I was a pre-teenager back in the early 1960s. I had about 20 or so and for years they sat in a box in my mom's house. When she passed away a few years ago I "rediscovered" them and brought them home. About a year or so ago my grandson (now 9 yrs old) saw them and became interested so we began collecting together. Where do two guys (one old and one very young) on a small budget look for the following at an affordable price? Thanks for your thoughts. Our wantlist: PO1(any color) -My wantlist is as follows PO1 (any color): Airship Rigger (1944-1948), Aviation Carpenter's Mate(1921-1941), Aviation General Utility (1926-58), Aviation Pilot(1942-1948), Aviation Quartermaster, Aviation Rigger, Buglemaster, Construction Battalion (CB), Diver (2006-present), Explosive Ordnance Device Spec.(2006-present), Fire Control Tech. (1946-55), Gun Capt., Mailman (M in Cancelation circle), Mass Comm Spec.(Earth Globe and Sparks), Master-at-Arms (star without badge), Motor Mach. Mate (M.O. w/prop), Photographer (box camera 1921-1942), Port Security (USCG), Sailmaker (1885-1939), Spec: A, B, C, D, E, H, I, K, M, O, P, Q, R, S, U, V, W, X, Spec.
