    A lovely old box trunk
I'm not sure what this box made or used for?? Maybe a foot locker for a Soldier? I'm not sure but it's a lovely looking thing and it's a great size. I keep all my goodies in it :)

What a fantastic box! It looks British to me -- particularly the handles. It does have the look of a military campaign style of chest. I have one that is black of similar style that dates back to late 1770's. The handles suggest a later date, perhaps 1860's, but I really am guessing at this point -- the older they are the smaller they are. Can you see a nail head anywhere to help date it? Either way, it is a wonderful early chest. How did you come across it?

That is kinda funny -- I forget that you were in England when I said it looks British. It is hard to discern the age from the picture -- if the corners are made from cast iron then for sure it is that old, if they are made out of stamped metal then a little bit of a later date. You have a great eye for these things... keep them coming!

Thanks trunkman for your info, your Comments are really Interesting. The corners look like they are cast metal so that would made it a bit later.
