This is a brass armband originally worn by school crossing guards in New Jersey. It has the original stretch strap. It was made by the whitehead and huag co., Newark NJ. does anyone know the history/vintage of this item?? I think it is circa 1950's ????

A slight correction in your description. The arm badge was issued to and worn by students safety patrol members, not crossing guards in New Jersey Schools during the late 1940's and 1950's. I was a proud member of the Sicklerville School Safety patrol in 1949-1950 and polished my badge until it shown like a mirror. Ours was a rural three room school with three grades in a room and usually only 7th and 8th graders were chosen for the responsibility of making sure the little kids crossed the road safely. It was truly an honor to be chosen, however there were not too many to choose from. My graduating class had 12 members.
