Got this at a yard sale this morning for next to nothing..
Question clean it up or leave it ?
Also any idea how old it is ? Early 1900s ?
The only markings I can see are EAGLE LOCK CO. TERRYVILLE CONN. USA ...on the lock
Thank you
Lovely piece -- my guess as to age would be early 1900's or so based on the lock and construction. Refinishing it or touching it up depends on how you wish to display it. The front panel looks a little rusty so either a touch of gun oil to tone it down or a repaint. Thanks for the post
Thanks Trunkman
I have no idea how old that it is, and I'm certainly no expert - but it looks like a machinist tool chest to me. If you Google it, then you'll see some that look like this. So, if you got it for next to nothing, then you got a great deal! Some women use the solid wooden ones as jewelry boxes. I think that if you cleaned it up and displayed it with the front open and the wooden drawers showing, that it would be very attractive, but that, of course, is up to you. I would love to find a solid wooden one of these for a good price. Great find!
Thanks myoldkyhime... It is a machinist box.. Oak is the wood on the drawers. For 2 dollars you cant go wrong.I also have my fathers old Gerstner box that is at least 50 years old ill post some pics of that...Thanks again
Wow. $2 is an incredible price! I hope that I can find a deal like that. I would love to see pics of your dad's box.
