Hammond made two versions of the "Firefly," both spin-start alarm clocks with illuminated dials. These two clocks are both the "Modern Firefly" version, which has a more 'streamlined' form. The Modern Firefly was typically manufactured with a white Plaskon (Beetle) case and brass trim. Exceptionally rare are examples with brown Bakelite cases and brass trim, marbleized black and white Plaskon with brass trim, and black Bakelite with chrome trim. Some had rubber feet, others had brass feet as seen here. The dials are made of a thin sheet of translucent plastic, and a small bulb located behind the dial provides a soft pleasing glow.
