By chance I came against these earrings. Since they would fit my very beautiful jewels of coral I could acquire them. But I have a few questions about coral and of this earrings. Itself, I think they are made around the last half 19th, early 20th century view of the screw backs. There are some characters in (see photo) a JV or JW and another character might be a hallmark. But whether this gold or vermeil is I do not know. However, not all "" grapes "has exact the same color there is some difference in between.
On the last photos I put all my coral jewelry in combination. But I must admit I'm not a special on coral. How can I see if something really is coral or not? Like your help?

these pieces are coral agram -- which are becoming scarce due to pollution -- the most rare are the noble reds seen in your one pair of earrings -- it is typical to have varying degrees of color as seen in the grapes -- they are from mother nature and she is not a perfectionist nor so anal retentive -- she gives us variety for the beautify we mortals carve to stir the imagination -- coral like gemstones has to be cut and polished -- i agree with your time period -- didn't find any thing for the initials on the american hallmark site for either JV or JW that were of that script -- earring always are tougher to place due to the small area that is allotted for the stamp

stunning collection agram -- love the hatpin -- would like to see more of that one

All your coral pieces look to be natural coral, but nowadays, buyers should be careful - there is a lot of reconstituted coral beads on the market, made of coral dust mixed with resin, looks genuine but is actually mass produced and cheap.

Agram.m, I love your pieces! Your grape earrings are stunning.
I have some coral myself, two necklaces and some earrings, but I too find it hard to see if something is real or not.
I have never put it to the test because I'm afraid I could damage the jewelry, but coral is composed of calcium carbonate, so it will bubble when you touch it with acid.
Coral is also porous so there will be some "imperfections" in the
coral beads. Coral is also softer than glass and other gem materials
with a hardness of only 3,5 on Mohs scale (diamond being 10).

Newtimes, thanks again for your valuable information. You are right concerning imperfections in the coral. Under a mangnifier I can see in a few coral beads what looks some very tiny holes. i suppose you means something like this. of course thanks for your loving. the only thing I must investigate if the earring leaves and screw backs are of vermeil or some gold carat.
