I have owned this 1970s magnavox player since 1972 -- it was one of those "to die for pieces" -- with age the TV died -- so i decided i was going to gut it and get ready to replace the TV -- the tape deck and record player still worked great -- it is a two piece set with the speakers in the bottom -- originally it came with the ugly antique silk cloth and since green it not my first choice i changed out the fabric -- otherwise it is all original

What I like so much about this set -- is you can close the door and it becomes a pretty piece of furniture -- TVs sometimes make me feel like "big brother" is sitting in the room watching -- probably read too many books with that particular theme

I have a gene as many of the members on this site seem to share -- that one just has to get inside something to see what makes it tick -- as luck would have it -- ted walked in as i was ready to pull it and said -- what do you think your doing -- are you clazy (crazy) lady -- those things store energy in their tubes and they can kill you -- carefully placed the back panel back on and slid it back into the corner -- it is on the honey do list to get that TV changed out and it will happen as ted's father was a TV repairman and ted use to help him -- just have not come across the right TV yet -- patience patience patience

As they used to say on Batman, "ZAP". The picture tube would have a 25K volt high voltage charge from the high voltage rectifier, big red wire to the back and side of the picture tube, pretty good bite. Second job every had was tv repairman at JC Penny's, while in High school.

at the time jay -- i was teaching chemistry and biology at wahoo high school in nebraska -- my salary was $8600 -- it was my first teaching position -- as far as today's value -- with our throw away society attitude -- i would guess -- zilch nada -- just keeping it out of the landfill and giving the sharks a little more space in their environment

oh dear where do i start to answer on this one -- well her we go

sean -- nada zilch zippo -- it probably would go to the landfills -- but in my life time she won't as she has many good miles on her after ted and i restore her

kevin & Jay -- thank you so much for the compliments -- yes as they would say as with other female members on this site -- a lady with a brain -- sex never matters -- genetics does and how quickly one can process through the brain synapsis that is what is important

just to keep both of you boys and myself out of trouble with the english language and age -- i just use the term ole rather than old -- hopefully that offends no one -- of course sometimes i get caught on so called spelling --

kev -- thanks so much for sharing on the tv and other items -- you are a soul mate in that respect -- in regards to CRT screens -- it is amazing how strong that "glass" is -- and where did i get my experience on that one --

well here is the story -- mom and dad had a terrible fight and that was rare -- i was 9 -- this fight was just out of nowhere -- but i understand today -- dad just learned he had a year to live -- dad had a six pack of beer -- another rarity and mom is a T Totaller -- as they "talked" it got heated and dad picked up a heavy glass candy dishes in a silver mounting and hurled it across the room -- the dish and everything else broke -- but that dang CRT screen only had just a simple blemish -- even today i search as to the material in that CRT screen -- most amazing -- of course laddie (the collie dog) and fluffy (the white persian cat) and i head to the outdoors -- but we could still hear -- i stuck it in my memory and learned so much on human behavior during a crisis time

well kev -- shame on mom -- who knows the mind games they wanted to play on one another and those of us that got sucked up in their vortexes -- we were the children that gave unconditional love

So, what did you do? It would be great if you actually did fix the old set.
    11. epson233 epson233, 3 years ago
hi danta -- yes we still have her - tv does not work but it is a beautiful piece of furniture -- ted & i have talked about removing the old tv out and placing a new tv in the magnavox -- but the record player still works -- of course the remote not longer works -- as i always say ted is the engineer & i am the chemist -- to what one monkey does not know the other does --have a great day -- work safe & drive safe
