I have had this pin sitting in my pin collection for many years now and decided to do some research on it. Found out its call a Blackamoor pin made by the HAR jewlery company from the 40's or 50's.

Very nice. What material is the face made of?

I have a similar brooch. Its yellow metal with paint on it, and its hollow, isn't it?

It's all a gold toned metal in the back so I guess the face would have to be painted on.

Ver nice. I published 2 month ago on CW in Fine jewelry a blackamoor hatpin and earrings gold/wilver with coral and garnets. Very nice little parure.

you nailed it -- very nice piece also very unique as the blackamoores typically do not depict that particular style of turban -- typically the old pieces were carved from ebony -- blackamoor charms 3 years ago were selling for between $500 & $800 on ebay -- however due to the economy and the flooding of the market of these types of charms the price has dropped considerably -- typically selling for under $200 pending on the ornateness of the carving
