This man is a war hero. He is know for his words while under attack on his ship "don't give up the ship!"

I got this from a lady who collected antiques all her life.
In conducting some research at the Naval History. The image is a black and white photographic print from a original painting that was owned by Rear Admiral Charles S. Boggs, USN, a descendant of Lawrence. The painting was lost in a fire that destroyed Boggs's home on Staten Island. The photograph (which is attached to this e-mail) is by Julian Bowes and was taken during the 1930s or 1940s.
Based on this information and the similarities of the two images, I would guess that your item is either a color photograph, or a hand colored black and white photograph from the original painting that has since been lost in a fire.
Still unsure of what time it is from. Because I haven't opened it. Heard that that can damage the photo is it very old.
