I found this in an antique mall for a good price. I don't see monitor tops around here usually. So, I thought that I would add it to my collection. It is covered in metal. It does have a couple of small spots with holes in the metal. Otherwise, it is in pretty good condition. It does not have a tray but does have one lithograph inside the lid. I don't know how old it is. I don't see any patent dates on it yet. Any ideas about it's age or other info would be appreciated.
Thanks for the loves!
Lovely early moniter trunk. The lock and the fingering look like a little older stock than the slat clamps, (which was typical to use some older parts) which leads me to think it is from early 1900's -- the slat clamps look like pressed tin, which was done around that date -- if it was an earlier trunk the slat clamps would be cast iron. I am still waiting for the right one for my collection -- great find!
Yes, the fingerlings appear to be cast iron and the clamps are pressed tin. I would like to have an older one with embossed tin. I don't know how long it might take for me to find one that fits into my budget. (Patience isn't one of my virtues.) The price was good on this one - so I couldn't resist.
This is really great!! One of my favorite trunk designs.
Do you know the maker of this trunk???
