I would very much like to buy this whole setup and put in in my back yard. The Pittsburgh Port Authority is not interested.

The Duquesne Incline was built in 1877 and is one of two incline (funicular) railroads still in operation in Pittsburgh. Lighting hampered any attempts at photographing the inside of the cars, which have been very well maintained and are quite ornate, maybe next time....

Please note the rainbow captured in the picture of the skyline. Perhaps it is a sign that someday I will be able to own one of my favorite antiques.

    Thanks for looking

one of my earliest memories is the worn marble where my uncle handed over the money for the tickets to ride on this incline.

Thanks so much for the love mrmajestic1 and mustangtony !

Thanks to you also ho2cultcha, I am happy that I was able to trigger a memory for you. I think that is a lot of what makes this show and tell format so enjoyable for me, the almost daily experience of seeing something here that brings up a pleasant association that I had forgotten.

Is it still in use, I noticed there are lights on along the track & the cars change position in your photos.
Maybe your wish will come true some day.

Many thanks AmberRose, filmnet, softailgarage and walksoftly.

Yes it is still in use, the ride up and down is wonderful. There are two inclines still operating daily in Pittsburgh, the other being the Monongehela Incline. There were once 17 inclines in the city if I am not mistaken.

I will be in town for a concert this Sunday and plan to ride the other. I will post some pics, but can't promise a rainbow...
