Hi. I'm about to inherit this powder compact, and would like som history to it.

There is a piece of paper on the inside that reads: "data del timbro pa***"(inclompete word)

and also the figure 24 and "EIRE"

I guess the easiest way to id the compact is by the stamp, but I'm not very good at googling

thanks in advance for ant info regarding this piece

Data Del Timbro is Italian for "Stamp Date". Can you please take a photo of the piece of paper showing the information you posted. I assume that the 2nd photo is of the back of the compact. Can you also include photos of the inside?

      Eire means Ireland!
    3. vetraio50 vetraio50, 12 years ago
That would read 'data del timbro postale' - it is a way of assigning a date to an item. It's not really official.
That box lid is upside down.
It has a scene on the edge of a lake.
      Nice gold box!
The dog's head in the belt will be important.
The mark above 14 K for 14 carat gold is important too.

Is it a French gold mark?

Tried uploading a photo of the dog's head in a buckle into Google image search & came up empty handed. Vetraio50 that link was for Silver Markings. Will try to look for a Gold Markings site.

      Hi Malta Mary!
They are for both gold and silver.
Gold on the left and silver to the right on that page.
This might well be a snuff box.
It might have been an Irish owner.
The English, Scots, Welsh and Irish all had a passion for snuff.
The best snuff boxes are French.
The best gold boxes are French.
      I'm going for French.

Is it a dog or a wolf within the belt?
      Thought bubbles.
      Trying to add input.

A wolf might mean Callaghan or Wilson.
      Is it a family piece?
