This is a cherished heirloom, my great-great grandfather fought in several battles during the Civil War before his demise in 1863.

I am unsure if this is confederate or union unable to find makeers mark. It appears my great-great grrandfather night have possibly fought on both sides while tracking him on ancestry.com he was what seemed to be a professional soldier. Very confusing trying to track him but he did muster out in 1863 upon his death.

It is a US Model 1832 artillery short sword.

They were used during the Civil War.

It shure looks like the 1832 hilt, but there are no fullers on the blade and the blade is unmarked! Kinda strange.

The federal eagle is definately U.S. but the north did a better than average job is supplying the South with captured weapons. By the end of the war, it could have been used on either side.
