    This is a box my Dad had for many years the wood is darker that these shots i lightened these to show the work.Very solid also still opens and closes, I wonder if this is Walnut wood. Possibly from India/China in ww11.Because in 1960s we lived in Thailand and i remember this from theN I was only 6 yrs old and in Thailand there is not wood like this to hard for the heat. Or Victorian from his father in 30s. any know?

      I wonder if it might be boxwood. It seems to be the right color, but I'm no expert at wood. Anyways a beautiful box! Thanks for sharing!

      Not sure if you would mind taking a small sample of wood from the box, but if you don't mind then I heard somewhere that some government agency provides free identification of wood samples with a limit of a few per household per year.
