It's an oil lamp from the early times till the late 19th century that was used in SW Asia Mesopotamia/Persia. It was quite simple; oil was contained in the handled gourd/container and a Rush (wick) hung out of the spout and absorbed the oil inside. When lit, you simply had to adjust the length of the wick as the oil burned at the end. They were always decorated on top of the receptacle. RER (LOUMANAL)

      Thanks Loumanal for u answer.
Is it very old or something else, i understand it's very difficult to say in one photo? It requires the object to see and expertise.

Hi Vintage_Joe! They were made of clay for thousands of years, exactly like this and were used until electricity was invented and still used by the poor after that. RER (LOUMANAL)

Ones like this were made by the Romans and it would be nice to get a better view of picture on it, to see what style it is. The Roman ones do tend to look more factory made than yours does though.

Ok, i add some new pictures.
I understand that there is lot of repro and fake ones but somewhere is still the genuine one.
      I am still searching ;)

Show that the object is actually made with potter's wheel.
