Have this old engine with no markings. Looks like early 1900's. All metal, missing some pieces. I think it is cool, and would like to have it restored possibly. Can anyone tell me what it is, and worth?

if i had to guess, i would say look into Ives trains, since they were one of the only brands making trains that early. it also looks like cast iron, which would be consistent with that, but it's really hard to tell from the photos... any identifying marks on it anywhere? can you tell what gauge it is (or if it's meant to run on tracks at all?)? measure the distance between the inside of the wheels if you haven't yet to figure out the gauge, which might help in identifying it a bit.

Looks like a MarX Commodore Vanderbilt clockwork.

Forgot all about this, thanks combeske. This is a 1937- 1937 MarX Commodore Vanderbilt.

It definitely looks like a Marx Commodore Vanderbuilt Clock Work. The Marx Mercury looks very similar, but it is the electric version. I have both but they are complete.
      Thanks,
      John
