My wife Heather and I love this lamp but we want to know its history . We found it in Heather' great aunts house, Aunt M. told us we could pick something out, before she went to live with her son in Toronto... So the lamp was in a box that was going to the dump . So we did the right thing and saved the plane-lamp and some old 45's of Aunt M's. We asked her about the lamp, but she couldn't remember much about it but she never turned it on because it would get to hot . She said it showed up in the 1950's.. Thats was the end of the story, Aunt M. died in 2004. So we have a Unsolved Mystery... The sticker on the under side of the wing states Tuscan mfg.co.ltd. Portable Electric Lamp. We want to know if its from the U.S. and the Style of the design on the base . Lots of questions ...It stands about 9" from the base .
made of metal covered with chrome , light switch is on the underside of the main body of the plane .org. cord and light bulb inside plane. Its kind of neat, but Aunt M.was right it does get to hot...so we don't turn it on......

The style of the base looks Art Nouveau to me, although I don't think it dates from that far back.

Tuscan was a name on these airplane lamps, which was actually the company of Metalcraft Mfg Companywhich used several names on their wonderful airplane lamps and floor model ashtrays. These were only made in Canada, Years later the lamp would be reproduced as a floor ashtray and airplne with a fake depression glass base, (1990's. These came out only after the second world war abd were advertised in the 1947 - 1948 Eatons catalogs. These beauties are fairly rare, especially the lamps !~
