Living in Southeastern Virginia, my house has colonial style architecture. We also have a pair of cats (a blue Persian and a blue point Balinese), so when we began collecting glass, art pottery, and Wedgwood, I began with the premise that display cabinets would be the best course of action.

These photos are of the cases in our dining room, and they were taken a couple of years ago. Now they are completely full. Fortunately the cats are pretty good and don't bother anything. Currently our collection includes about 200 art glass items, over 300 Wedgwood pieces, and about 75 items of Deco era American art pottery. We also have Masonic antiques, historic and pre-historic artifacts, ancient and early modern coins, film cameras, political memorabilia, poster art, watches, etc. This has spilled out of the 5 china cabinets and also covers some built in shelves in the library, side boards, desks, the walls, the fireplace mantel, end tables, filing cabinets, etc. Riker mounts and display frames contain the "smalls" and are stored in drawers. Items not on dispaly are kept in boxes and bins in the climate controlled garage. A security system is a must, as is an insurance rider for antiques and a trusty pump action 12GA.

I believe we are practically ready to open a small wing of a museum!

Amazing! And you have a LIBRARY! :) I have one piece of Wedgwood, a rather old large cheese dome. LOVE your glass collection and would love to see more pics :)

...wow. Great collection(s). Very nice indeed!

S-to-G... could call it a den, but used as a library/office... only about 1000 books... I put vases along the shelves in front of the books... have to move them to get to the books :-) Thanks to all for the kind thoughts!

      Only 1000! :o
    6. Greatsnowyowl Greatsnowyowl, 12 years ago
1000 isn't really that many titles. It's like 10-15 boxes of books if we're talking paperback. it's really easy to amass that many without even being cognizant of it until it's time to move and you're like, OMG.. So many freaking boxes of books!?!?!

A stunning and enviable collection of glass and and Wedgwood, it must have taken you a while to collect them all, thank you for sharing....:-)

Like to see your collection one or two at a time, so we can have a real good look!!:)

Hi Inky, yes, I've been collecting since my teens... started with coins and cameras. If you buy 2 or 3 things a month, after forty years mass begins to build :-) Really nothing for envy, or it certainly isn't my goal to inspire that. My hopes for these postings is to share a bit of knowledge, and perhaps to inspire beginners. Most (like me) can't, nor shouldn't go out and buy a massive collection all at once. They are best accumulated and savored one piece at a time.

allirish... I'm glad someone got the joke... shooting a 12GA in a house full of glass & crockery doesn't really help the value of the collection ;-P

Though it is said that nothing stops a criminal in their tracks like the sound of a 12GA being ratcheted.

Justanovice - I will continue to post articles here for a while, but it would take some time to feature everything... those photos are just one room.

Thanks to all for the kind words!

Great collection. What is that amzing greenpiece in first photo top shelf with the many spouts ????
    14. beyemvey beyemvey, 12 years ago
Oz... If you mean the darker green with the 5 openings, that is a Loetz Creta Glatt tulpenvase. Loetz made that shape in a variety of decors and sizes with 5 or seven openings. It was intended to hold 5 buds. Cheers mate!

Nice Collection! The tall satin Candlesticks near the Malachite pieces on the top shelf-2nd photo are what I consider most interesting. Any info. on those..... height, etc... RER (BOB)
    16. beyemvey beyemvey, 8 years ago
@ LOUMANAL - they are Tiffin I believe... about 10" tall w/ sterling overlay of a Japonisme cherry blossom motif. The glass is Uranium, so they glow fiercely under UV light.
