This painting was passed down from my grandmother. I know she purchased it overseas about 40 years ago. The artist's signature shows W.C. Rip (not sure if that is just part of a last name?) and the date 78 (1878). Can anyone confirm who the artist is?

It says "This website is an initiative of a far relative of Willem Cornelis Rip. Made with the cooperation of the Rip-collector Mark Rijkaart."
Well you could have a copy, BUT read the description and it states that the size is unknown that tell me they do not have it, so I would email them a picture of yours to see if you have the original. Dave
I strongly believe it's the original. I sent an email earlier this morning, not sure if it's still an active email account but am hoping so.

This is an really early work of Willem. He was only 22 years old when he made this.
It is amazing what quality he had on this age since Watercolors are more difficult to make then oils.
The title is most often on the back of the paper . But in this case you do not have to look.
Because I almost know for certain this is a view on the city of Steenbergen.
It is a city near to Rotterdam were he used to live.
The church you see is not there any more.It was broken down in 1911.
The frame is original witch you do not see very often.
As for the value It should be around **** to ****dollar in auction.
Insurance-value is around **** dollar.

Just found another email from earlier today from the woman in the Nertherlands who forwarded my email on to the "expert" in Rip paintings. She said she found a photo of it on the internet and that's the one on their website. Likely it's one I posted a few years ago when first I inherited it, I cannot where I posted it but I do recall I received no response about it at that time. I am happy to now know more about it. She also asked for the measurements, which I provided, so they can update their information.
Way to go!! Now hang that Puppy up and ENJOY!!!! Dave
