I purchased this at an auction. No one knew what it was. It is 37 inches tall and the bottom part is 15 inches deep. The wheels are cast and are about 4 1/2 inches. The center spins but also closes up as seen in the third picture. There is a small metal latch that will swing down over the center to hold it and keep it from spinning or will hold it in place when closed. It is made entirely of wood except the metal bar the center turns on, the wheels, and the latch.
If anyone knows what it is or where I might find out what it is, please
    comment.

hi leah, nice piece of wood in the photo, it does look like a 50`s or 60`s era loom or weave machine. it has a load area or a starting point, you string the material over the thr uprights and the movable pieces i think has another material on them, and they pivot back and forth, or front too back, and you should have a needle or somesort of item to go between the the two as you swing the movable one and thus you are weaving material, yahooo!! your oun business is started ,hahaha

I think it has something to do with textiles also but I believe it might be for the finished yarn you open it up and spin the finished yarn onto it to make up the scanes of yarn you close it to take the scanes off. I would definitely check with the local weavers guild in your area.

Thanks so much for your comment. You are thinking along the lines
I was thinking. I had thought about using it myself to put my yarn
on so when I crochet I can just pull it off as I work.

I would rub it down with Howard Feed-N-Wax. It won't both your yarn either wipe it on and rub it in and it will put a nice smooth natural finish on this. It's a very nice piece.
