Can anyone tell me anything about "Lotta" ceramics or pottery? I have not been able to find anyone that has any information about the set I own. The only thing I have been able to find out is that it is listed in Debolt's dictionary of American pottery marks as being American made, c. 1880. Any additional information would be greatly appreciated!
I have a Lotta bowl with lid I got in central Illinois from a relative. I have not found out anything about it. Have you learned more? Yours is the most I've learned.
It is possible Lotta is the pattern name, not a potteries. Many ceramic pieces from the late 19th century have their pattern name in a ribbon mark, while the potteries' name usually appears above the ribbon.
Hi khuddleston637, No I have not learned anything new. My problem is this, I live in the South of France and just a few months before moving here while flipping channels and eating a sandwich for lunch I ran across the very end of a antique show on cable which had a water pot exactly like the one in my photo's and the lady who owned the pot was being told the value of her pot which was believe it or not $140,000.00 I know you can't believe it but that was the value given. The reason given for the high value was the extreme rarity of Lota pottery. At that time I did not have this set, I ran across it a few months later. The set had been in a closet for ten years because the previous owner could not find out anything either. I traded a conversion van that I needed to sell before leaving for Europe which was worth $5,000.00 for the set of pottery because of what I had seen on T.V I have no idea what the name of the show was and I have talked to everyone I can from here and after over 1200 emails I have found no one who knows anything about this pottery so it really must be extremely rare. The lady I saw on the T.V. show said that the only other Lota pottery the she had ever seen was in a museum. But again I have been unable to find out anything about it from here. If you decide to look for it please keep me posted.
